Ketamine

Medetomidine with Ketamine


[Medetomidine-Butorphanol] + Ketamine

  1. Premedicate: Medetomidine: 0.1 mg/kg, IV/IM and Butorphanol: 0.05–0.1 mg/kg IV/IM

  2. Preoxygenate: Place in an oxygen chamber as sedation commences

  3. Induce: Ketamine: 3–5 mg/kg IV

  4. Intubation: Subsequent use of a volatile agent (e.g. Isoflurane) with supplementary oxygen is recommended.

[Medetomidine-Buprenorphine] + Ketamine

  1. Premedicate: Medetomidine: 0.1 mg/kg, IV/IM and Buprenorphine: 0.02–0.05 mg/kg IV/IM

  2. Preoxygenate: Place in an oxygen chamber as sedation commences

  3. Induce: Ketamine: 3–5 mg/kg IV

  4. Intubation: Subsequent use of a volatile agent (e.g. Isoflurane) with supplementary oxygen is recommended

Reversal

  • Atipamezole 0.25mg/kg IM (2.5 X Medetomidine dose = half Medetomidine volume)
