Afoxolaner
Psoroptes cuniculi
Initial Treatment: A single oral dose of a commercial product containing 2.50 mg/kg of afoxolaner and 0.50 mg/kg of milbemycin oxime has been used in an experimental setting (Romero Núñez et al., 2020).
Therapeutics
Efficacy Profile
A single treatment of 2.50 mg/kg of afoxolaner and 0.50 mg/kg of milbemycin oxime gradually reduced the lesions presented by P. cuniculi in 19/19 rabbits without further topical or systemic medication. The treatment was effective in both ears (Romero Núñez et al., 2020).
Treatment Goals
When treating Psoroptes cuniculi in rabbits, the usual treatment goals are to reduce the severity and duration of parasitic infestation and eliminate the parasite.
Treatment Endpoints
Elimination of the parasite and resolution of clinical signs.
