Pharmacodynamics

Bupivacaine, a piperidine carboxamide-based local anaesthetic, is a long-acting, amide-type, local anaesthetic with both anaesthetic and analgesic effects. 

  • At high doses, Bupivacaine produces surgical anaesthesia

  • At lower doses, Bupivacaine produces sensory block (analgesia) with less-pronounced motor block.
